Labor and Birth Supplies and Must-Haves
Posted in Must Haves, Newborns, Supplies by allaccess on September 27th, 2009
It may seem rather odd, but during pregnancy, I look forward to the labour and birth of my baby. I spend my spare time preparing for when my newborn baby will come into the world and greet his new family.
I read books and look at pictures with my other children so they know what to expect for the big event. This also helps them to know how they can contribute by helping make Mommy comfortable so that things go as smoothly as possible.
Other preparations include stretching, practicing relaxation, checking my birthing pool (the kids love this), getting an OB kit, having the Emergency Childbirth manual handy, cleaning house, keeping up with laundry, and getting meals in the freezer for somebody to heat up. Also, I need to have ample supplies for baby.
My favorite stretches are ones that help open my pelvis so that when the day comes, it is easy to do.
Relaxation focuses on my breathing, comfortable positions, and sometimes rocking.
With the birthing pool, I simply set it up to check for cleanliness, holes, and to make sure I have everything we’ll need when the baby is ready to be born.
The OB kits I have gotten in the past have come from an emergency squad catalog, my doctor, or Amazon.com. There may be other places, but that is where I have gotten mine.
The Emergency Childbirth manual is a “must have”. I review it with family and make sure they all know where it is. This is for me and the newborn.
Keeping up with daily tasks makes due day easier.
My supply list for baby is very simple: Diapers, onesies, and sleepers mostly, since it will be a cold time of year and those things will help keep my newborn warm and dry.
